Best Practices

The following are best practices to keep in mind when creating and managing content on the SCAS website.

Media

  • All media is limited to 300kb. Adhering to this size limit will boost website performance for the end user.
  • There is generally a 3 swipe rule for image carousels, meaning the average end user will not scroll through more than 3 photos on an image carousel.Consider this when adding, creating or editing the photo gallery carousel.

Navigation

  • Avoid deeply nested pages on a website. Consider adding new pages to either a tier 1 or tier 2 navigation on the navbar.

Strapi and Website Updates

  • If prompted to upgrade to the latest or newer version Strapi, do not continue. Instead, reach out to the NHM Web Dev team at webmaster@nhm.org or via the Asana request form for assistance.
  • For all version updates to the website like Node.js, Next.js etc., reach out to the NHM Web Dev team for assistance.
