Adding Two-Factor Authentication

Adding Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Since October 2024, new and existing Drupal accounts require two-factor authentication (2FA) to log in. This is a security measure to protect the NHMLAC website and its users.

If 2FA has not added to an account, the user will be prompted to set it up when logging in with the following page:

Download an Authenticator App

While any authenticator app will work, NHM suggests using Google Authenticator, available on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.

Add a New Account

Open Google Authenticator and tap "Add a code" or the "+" button to add a new account.

Scan the QR Code

Scan the QR code on the Drupal 2FA page with the authenticator app. This will add the account to the app.

Enter the Code

You should see a code that refreshes every 30 seconds under "NaturalHistoryMuseum". Enter the code into the Drupal 2FA page to complete the setup. This step will be required log in.

After entering the code, you will receive the following confirmation message "2FA via authenticator has been enabled on your account" at the top of the page. Click "View" to access your account.
